Once again it has been a long time since I've posted. No projects lately, a combination of nothing coming my way, and a LOT of overtime at work.
Some time ago, I had an Acer AOA150, it came back to me a couple of months ago! Good old Junior (Its name...yes, it has a name!) LOL
I posted on what I had done to it some time ago (320Gb, 7,200 HD, maxed out the ram, blah, blah, blah.
I Acer E-recovery, updated everything and installed my favorite programs. When I was done I found that it wasn't charging the battery any more, once again the BIOS had become corrupt (3rd time since I bought it)
Back to the Acer website to download the current BIOS! I ran the Flashget program, and VIOLA! It is once again charging the battery.
Sometime soon I'd like to start another project, but that will have to wait, I bought a motorcycle and a 4x4 this year, oops! didn't plan on both! LOL, but I have had fun!

Acer AO756-2840
As it turns out I was quite wrong about being able to upgrade the processor, it is indeed soldered directly to the mother board....ARG! Too bad. I will be upgrading the ram and hard drive yet, anything to boost the performance of this very nice net-book.
It will be a while before I can do any upgrades to this one. There are other things that I need to take care of at the moment. Life is good!

A new ride! Weight update.
I picked this up last week, a 2007 Yamaha XVS1100 V Star 1100 Midnight Custom. 9,000 miles on it, and in perfect condition. The bike already has a hyper charger, Cobra custom exhaust, and has been jetted. What a NICE ride! I've already had it out for a ride (Bringing it home) only 9 miles, I tell ya, it was 32 and windy out, but I enjoyed the ride home! OH YEAH! I can't wait to get this out on a really nice day and go for a LONG ride!
For now, it is covered up and stored, far too cold to et it out and enjoy it at all.
Weight update: I'm staying steady at 207, 56 pounds less than my previous weight. I'm still hoping to shed the last 15 pounds, hopefully when I can get out when it is warmer and get some good exercise...might be a while.

Asus K501, Jelly Bean update and the government steps in.!
The K501 is a nice laptop if your not planning on doing any gaming on it. The system ratings are low (A measly 3.3 out of 7.9) However, it will surf the web, play video's, and do most anything you ask of it. I only had it in my hands for two days, gone already! Not a machine I would replace my current laptop with, but a nice unit anyhow.
**Samsung OFFICIALLY released Jelly Bean for the 7" Tab 2 (Through its update service) on Friday. It will take some getting used to, but I'm up to the challenge!
As all of you are more than likely aware, Mozilla released Firefox 18 last week, faster, safer, blah, blah! LOL! Get it! It works great!
On another interesting note, the government last week recommended that if you use Java, you disable it for now. There is a security flaw that will let a hacker take over your computer.....no fix released yet!
I'm still busy at work, it will be that way for a while, so my posts will be sporadic, like they have been.
Galaxy Tab 2
So far I am happy with it, not difficult to use at all, really decent battery life as well. The only real issue that I have had is with the Kies software. For some reason it does not like Windows Vista, I could not get it to work properly no matter what I did. I installed Kies on my Windows 7 Netbook and it works FINE! So, it will be the little Acer D257 that I use to sync.

P.S. 58 pounds lost so far! Not much lost lately, seems to come in spurts now? Feeling better! Gone from 40" tight to 34" comfortable! YEAH!
Workin, wieght loss, and keeping busy!
It's been a few weeks since I've posted, I have lost 46 pounds to date! YEA! How? WORK! And a bit of dieting as well. I eat a yogurt and a cup of coffee in the morning (With vitamins) Two yogurts and two string cheeses for lunch, and a normal supper......seems to be working?
No projects have come my way in a while, there may be a netbook that I need to clean up coming my way soon? It would be interesting to see what I could do to speed it up?

Death of a Dell E6400
For whatever reason my Dell E6400 is no longer working. I believe that it may be similar to the GPU problems that HP faced a few years ago. Turn on the power and I get a "locked D" error.
According to the Dell website this indicates that the processor is no longer being recognized. I swapped the processor out with a good one and the same issue? ARG! too bad! It was a really nice laptop.
For now I am keeping its carcass around, maybe I'll tear it up and fix it in the near future?

Wow! That's all I can say! since April a LOT has changed. Where to start?
Weight loss. I have lost a total of 57 pounds since February, not much in the last 6 weeks or so, but BOY di I feel better!
I am no longer with the heating and cooling company, while they treated me very well, they pay was poor. I received a call from another company in June asking me to interview with them, I did, and was HIRED! SO! I am back to being a quality Supervisor, as well as a Production Supervisor.
It was quite the change, and I had to learn to (still learning) to deal with the stresses of the position, and everything that I needed to learn (still learning!) I am doing well however, and I like what I am doing!
Relaxing. early this year I was fortunate enough to pick up a 35.5 5th wheel for an incredibly good deal, it needed quite a few little things, but the potential was there! I have invested roughly 1,200 into it to get it to the "comfy" level. it was well worth it! I have had LOTS of fun using it this season, camping is too fun!
No interesting computer issues lately, work has kept me VERY busy! That is a GOOD thing!

Still kicking
Hello all!
I am still kicking, but back to work! YEAH! I'm working in industrial heating and cooling on the construction side right now. It is quite physical, in 7 weeks I have lost 32 pounds! YEAH BUDDY! I feel MUCH better, but have a long way to go.
Generally I post about projects that come my way, and I will continue to do that. I have two laptops that I received recently that I have played with a bit, a Compaq ZV6000, and a Sony Vaio PCG-9211.
The Compaq has some potential, AMD XP3200 Processor, 1.5Gb of ram, 80Gb. Hard Drive. Just stinking large! 17 inch display (Too bad it is broken right now!)
I cleaned out all the extra programs that the previous owner had installed, along with a load of malware that Malware Antibites had picked up, LOTS of cleaning, but it seems to run far better now. (1200 registry errors? never had a hit that high before?)
The Sony? Pentium III 600MHz, 256Mb Ram (MAX!) 20Gb Hard Drive. good for surfing, not for power. (What a BRICK!) Need a boot disc to install Windows on a larger Hard Drive. 20Gb wont cut it!
For now not much more than trying to clean and upgrade the memory of both laptops. It helped but there is more I can do yet to improve the performance. Time to head off once again, it's quite early and the coffee hasn't kicked in yet.

In the last few months Mozilla has released 5 new versions of Firefox, the Current is 9.0.1, I was wondering how many manufacturers of the freeware I use have had recent releases? Here is a list of what I use, and the current versions:

Firefox 9.0.1 released
Firefox 9.0 was released two days ago, and an update was released yesterday for Mozilla's latest offering. Firefox 9.0 has been touted to be 30% faster that Firefox 8.0, however, you MUST update your pluggins for Firefox to perform at its best.Here is the link to the checker: Firefox plugin checker Here you can check the state of your pluggins, and update if neccesary, there are links to the updates as well.
Once you have updated Firefox, check for Windows updates, and run disc cleanup, and defragmenter to optimize your system.
Personally I use available freeware to optimize my computer, including:
CCleaner
Auslogics disc defragmenter, registry cleaner, and registry defragmenter.
Malware anti-bites
These are the main programs that I use to keep my system running efficiently.

Internet Censoring in America
If this does not sound familiar to you, then just Google "china internet censoring" and you will see what the government in America has the potential of doing if action is not taken.
I am normally NOT involved in such things, but this time I have to! I am not involved in illegal porn, nor illegal movie or music sharing, or ANY other illegal activities, the Government has NO right to follow me!. This legislation has the potential to muzzle every American, if the Government doesn't like what your saying, it will get taken off permanently! It will force Internet Providers to monitor ALL of your activities! Big Brother is NOT a good thing!

I'm thinking that all the freeware creators have gotten together to release all of their new programs and updates at once. Quite a few updates and new releases today including:New releases:

Project Dell
So far the installation has been a PAIN! LOL! I installed Vista and all related drivers, and as soon as I started it, it would give me the BSOD and restart. After a LOAD of searching, it turned out the video driver did not install properly and was causing ALL of the problems. Now to download and install the 120 updates, antivirus, Firefox, and a load of little helper programs to optimize this little notebook.
Even though the updates are not complete, it is obvious that this is a very nice notebook. It's fast already, can't wait to play with it when optimized!

**Update!
YEESH! that's what I have to say about the last few days of messing with this little guy! Three time I updated to a certain point,, then it would flash the BSOD!
As it turns out, I was missing a critical chipset driver that was NOT on the list for this specific notebook. It's AMAZING how much better it runs! REALLY! LOL!
Also, there are compatibility issues with the Hard Drive........it does not like the new Hitachi that I originally installed, so I ended up with a Seagate drive instead.....the more I get into computers, the more confused I seem to get!
I'm still updating and installing my favorite programs, and I still need to clean it up, but it is quite fast for being two years old?
BTW! You MUST install the drivers in this machine in a specific order, or I guarantee you will have issues! Dell lists this order on line, just search for your specific model.

Bravada rear axle problems
I really like this old Bravada, even with 145,000 miles on it, I enjoy driving it during the winter. I'll keep you updates when I replace it! For now, it must set.

Acer D255E, D257 memory upgrades and broken screen
So it's been a while since I've posted once again. Who would believe with being unemployed, that I could be so busy?
I picked up an Acer One D255E Netbook a while back, five weeks after I bought it I BROKE it! I NEVER break anything! Anyhow, I broke the screen on it. I decided that rather than fixing the screen and bezel plastics, I would use it as a media server, and connect it to my television and entertainment center. So far the D255E has turned out to be a great setup!
I picked up an Acer D257 two months after I broke the first one. I was more than pleased to see that it had a dual-core processor in it! HOWEVER! It came with Win. 7 Basic and 1Gb. of ram, not the best combination.
Believe it or now, I had a Win. 7 Professional upgrade just laying around (That doesn't happen often!) and I found a 2Gb. chip at Crucial for $13! The little netbook runs much better with more memory, one MAJOR complaint! WHY does Acer not design their Netbooks to handle the memory that the operating system can use? Guess we'll never know?
I'd like t,o in the future upgrade the hard drive in this notebook to 500Gb, I'll need to get back to work before I can make this happen. I did upgrade the D255E with a 2Gb. memory card as well as upgrading the operating system to Win 7 Home Premium.

I have two Dells coming my way that are both dead. I believe one succumbed due to a power surge from its power supply, it smells bunt. Guess I'll see what I can make of them?

New battery for the Stratus
So, I went camping this weekend, and wouldn't you know it! One of the hottest days of the year and the 8 year old battery in the Stratus decides it no longer wants to work.
I got it jump started and drove it to Bumper-to-Bumper and picked up another one. $80 later and the Stratus coupe is up and running like a champ.
I can't complain about the Stratus at all, in the last seven years, I have put front brakes on twice, replaced the front rotors, two sets of tires, and oxygen sensor, and the routine maintenance like oil changes and air filters. It has been a fun car to drive!
It's been a couple of expensive weeks, with the fuel pump in the Bravada going out. I did however save myself a CONSIDERABLE amount of money by doing the work.
No matter what! God is GOD!

Replacing the Bravada fuel pump
The fuel pump had been going out for a while, I knew that, so I started looking for a new one. Here in town they wanted $277 for the most reasonable priced one, I'm unemployed, so that wasn't good enough! I found the pump on E-bay for $64, I ordered it, and it arrived quickly.
When I removed the gas tank from the Bravada, I knew I had a problem! The wiring connectors didn't match at all! After getting NO help from the seller, I started asking questions around here. As it turns out, you need to cut the old pigtail off and splice a new included pigtail into your wiring. OK, easy enough!
When I went to install the new fuel pump into the gas tank, I found yet another issue, the fuel pump lock collar was rusted badly, so bad, I had to destroy it to remove it from the tank. I ordered the part in town, and received the wrong part! NOBODY in town had the correct lock collar. Once again, I turned to E-bay, and found the correct part, four days later, it was at my doorstep!
Over all, it was a PAIN to get done, and I would MUCH rather do factory ball joints than install a new fuel pump in another SUV/ Truck. The dealer would have been around $1500, my cost including all the parts was $80! But it was some major work putting it back together! You can do it, it's just a major pain, and it required some patience and some mechanical skills.
On a scale of 1-10, I'd rate this one a 7. Removing the gas tank isn't too bad, wiring the new pig tail, installing the pump in the tank, getting it all back together? That is another story. I bent up the scatter shield while reinstalling the gas tank without even trying....It makes a major racket when it hits the U-joint next to it! LOL!
Expect about five hours to complete, have the new pump, the new pump lock collar, and a few new clamps BEFORE you start this project!

Bravada fuel pump
The fuel pump went out on my '99 Bravada, I picked a new one up for $64 on line. No major issues for now, other than the retainer needing replaced, that will be in tomorrow. The job overall has been a pain in the butt! I'd rather do wheel bearings or ball joint than a fuel pump! YEESH! I'll post more when done, and let you in on any tips I can give.
